SUNGO welcomed to Samoa some very special guests last on Tuesday 3rd June 2014 during an Ava ceremony.

Staged at the Vaitele Office , the ceremony kicked off a very important meeting not only for SUNGO but for some small Island states around the world which takes place at Moanalisa Hotel on the 4th—5th June.

The meeting was part of the preparation for the Third International Conference on Small Islands States (SIDS) later this year in Aug—Sept.

The meeting was also hosted by the Caribbean Policy Development Centre (CPDC) in partnership with the Commonwealth  Foundation 9CF).

It was designed to enhance the participation of Commonwealth CSOs to participate effectively in SIDS. The proposed aims of the two days Conference  identified and agreed on possible strategic partnership and collaborations and to enhance the coordination of Commonwealth SIDS CSO.

Interventions in the upcoming SIDS 2014 Conference.

The objectives of the meeting were to:

  • To review the Zero Draft of the Outcome of the SIDS 2014 Conference and agree on key revisions and/or inputs as required.
  • To agree on common agendas and actions, which can provide the basis for CSO partnership post– Apia
  • To develop a strategy for Commonwealth CSO engagement with International, regional and national stakeholders linked to post Conference
    follow up and implementation issues.
